The goddess of fertility finally smiled on you. Your long wait is over. The day you so patiently waited for is finally here. You’ve been trying to conceive for God knows how long. The wait has been worth it. You are now 2 weeks pregnant! But, are you really pregnant at 2 weeks? The concept of being pregnant at week 1 was a little exaggerated in your opinion. You didn’t feel pregnant at all. You had just missed your period and as usual, the probable reason could be that you are pregnant.

While the first week of pregnancy felt like a fluke, the onset of the second week has you thinking otherwise. At this point, you actually feel as if you are indeed pregnant. To put it in another way, the exact date you conceive is determined by your ovulation cycle. This could be between 13 and 20 days after the first day of your period depending on your cycle.

So what happens during ovulation? Ovulation occurs when an ovary releases an egg which subsequently travels to the fallopian tube. Conception occurs when that very same egg is fertilized by a sperm.   • Heightened sense of smell. Some women, not all, actually become very sensitive to smell. All of a sudden, you find yourself repugnant to smells or odours you weren’t really conscious of before. When this happens, it could be an indication that you are ovulating.
  • Thick cervical mucous. Is your cervical mucous thicker, cloudier, and stickier? Well, this could be an indication that you are ovulating. Changes in your cervical mucous are essentially meant to help the sperm swim with ease to the fallopian tube.
  • Increased basal body temperature. During ovulation, your body temperature increases slightly. Monitor your body temperature for a couple of months and take note of when it spikes monthly. This could be the time when you are ovulating.
  • Increased libido. You feel a little hornier? Well, it could be an indication you are ovulating. Some women experience high libido or sex drive during ovulation and feel sensual or rather sexually attracted towards their partners than is normal. Biologically, this is nature’s way of encouraging you to engage in intercourse at a time that you are most fertile.

What signs inform you that you are pregnant in your second week of pregnancy?

  • Abdominal pains
  • Spotting or vaginal bleeding (This occurs as a result of the shedding of the uterine wall)
  • Frequent urination
  • Mood swings
  • Swollen or tender breasts
  • Nausea (vomiting)
  • Restlessness or fatigue

Will Your Pregnancy Test Appear Positive At 2 Weeks?

In the first and second week of pregnancy, you are basically not pregnant at all. During this period, your body is preparing for possible pregnancy. There is no fetus to talk about.   • Quit smoking and drinking. You love that stick so much that you can’t go a day without a puff? It is time to quit smoking for the sake of your unborn baby. The same applies for heavy drinking. You could take alcoholic drinks in moderation but the best course of action would be to desist from alcoholic drinks altogether during your pregnancy period.
  • Eat foods rich in essential nutrients. Take folic acid supplements as well as multivitamins. Folic acid supplements are instrumental in the development of your baby and protecting it from certain defects or conditions. A proper diet cannot be wished away as your developing baby needs all the nutrients it can get.

Ultrasound, Anyone?

It crossed your mind, right? You want to be sure no doubt. At 2 weeks pregnant, an ultrasound is not needed. There is no baby at this point. However, if you’ve been having problems getting pregnant, an ultrasound will be instrumental in helping your doctor measure how thick your uterine lining is. Subsequently, an ultrasound at week 2 could be instrumental in determining if your follicles are maturing in the correct way!

Pregnancy at week 2 might seem like early in the day to take necessary precautionary measures. This is not the case.
