During the first trimester of a pregnancy, a woman experiences a lot of changes in her body. Vomiting becomes her way of life at least in the first trimester of pregnancy. This is referred to as nausea. You feel sick not only in the morning but sporadically throughout the day. The degree of nausea varies from woman to woman. Some can experience it for one month and some even for the whole nine months. For the majority of women, the vomiting goes on for at least 3 months.
The causes of nausea or vomiting have not been known but researchers speculate that it is because of the hormonal imbalance in the body. An unbalanced sugar level in the body is also a cause of nausea. Women should also note the level of the vomiting. If the vomiting is very severe they should consult a doctor as soon as possible.
When you vomit, you tend to lose a lot of water and other nutrients that the body needs. The most common question women ask during this time is: “what should I take for nausea during pregnancy?” There are a lot of things you can take during this time, but the most important is fluid.
Take as much water as you possibly can. If fresh fruit juices don’t make you feel like vomiting, you can drink them in plenty. Keeping your body hydrated is very important. Try the herbal tea. It has a calming effect and is very good for your health. If you don’t fancy the herbal tea, you could try the ginger tea. It has several nutritional values that are good for you and your baby.
To avoid getting nausea in the morning, you should avoid taking alcohol completely. It is not even good for your health and that of your baby. Avoid taking coffee and if you cannot avoid taking it, it is recommended that you only take one cup every day. Consequently, you also need to desist from smoking. Smoking not only ruins your appetite, but it is also very harmful to your health. Try taking toasted bread and dry crackers. They are delicious as well as nutritious.
When you wake up in the morning, don’t brush your teeth immediately, otherwise you will vomit. Wait for some time before you consume anything. Get outside and enjoy the fresh air by going for a walk. It is good exercise for both you and the baby. During the day, do not consume a lot of food at once. Eat very little after every few hours. After eating, try lying down as this helps in digestion. Try resting as many times as possible during the day.
During the night, you can avoid nausea by eating some little snacks such as yogurt, milk or sandwich. If you wake up during the night, try to eat and if it is possible, try to sleep with the windows open to let in as much fresh air as possible. The more fresh air you get, the better.
